AGE OF THE OLDEST HOUSE REMODELED:
105 Years
WEIRDEST ITEM FOUND IN A HOUSE:
54 YEARS worth of
Gillette men’s razors in the wall!
ON MY PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW:
Get my current faves right here and sing along with me!
FAVORITE DESIGNERS:
Amber Lewis (Amber Interiors). I just want to get into her head and see her process. Katie Hodges and Jake Arnold are incredible, too. They’ve all got this lived in, effortless vibe that I love. And I think it really translates to the laid back Texas’ lifestyle.
GROWING UP:
I’m a Texas girl, born and raised
DRINK OF CHOICE:
For everyday, coffee (with way too much cream and sugar).
When, I need something strong, a good old fashioned — strong and heavy at first, but give it some time and the flavors blend together perfectly.
BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE:
Leaving the corporate world behind to pursue interior design.
My husband and daughter are up there, too.
TRAVEL DREAMS:
I can’t wait to go back to Italy. We got married in a little village called Santo Stefano di Sessanio and have daydreamed about returning ever since.
ABOUT JOCELYN
Hi there, I’m Jocelyn LaFerney, creative director and principal interior designer at Ledger and Ladder Studios.
While I’m deeply passionate about all things interior design, I took a roundabout way of getting here. After graduating from Texas A&M with an accounting degree, I started my career in business consulting. It wasn’t until years later when my husband and I renovated our first home in Dallas, TX that I fell in love with interior design and decoration.
Throughout the home renovation and redesign process, I realized how much I loved the balance interior design brought. It’s incredibly detailed and rigorously planned (which feels right at home with my accounting background). Yet it’s also experimental, organic, and deeply moving.
Though I instantly fell in love with the design process, I kept my day job as a consultant, flipping and renovating properties on the side with my handy husband and a few of our friends. Then, a few years ago, an arsonist destroyed a 100+-year-old Queen Anne home we were *this close* to finishing in Galveston, TX.
Ultimately, tragedy brought clarity. We mourned our losses for a few weeks (all that work and nothing to show for it!), then decided if we were going to do this, we were going all in and Ledger and Ladder Studios was born.
Since then, I’ve made it my mission to immerse myself in the design world, learning from the experts to hone my craft and grow my business. There are so many incredible experts interior designers rely on — architects, contractors, trades, artisans, and makers — cultivating these relationships is key to growth as a designer. I’m also a huge design nerd and am constantly reading up on the field, both historically and about emerging trends.
I’ve partnered with interior design clients throughout Texas and across the US, getting to know their habits, lifestyles, and design goals. This personal approach really allows me to deliver customized design solutions that enable families to thrive. As a mom myself, I understand firsthand the importance of a home that’s not only beautiful but effortless and functional, with fixtures and furnishings designed to withstand real life.
Great interior design improves not only the look, but the feeling of a space. When you walk into a home that’s been thoughtfully designed, you can tell. And I love seeing the look on clients’ faces when they walk into their newly redesigned home for the first time.
